CASA AGM
24 NOVEMBER 2022, THE CEDAR CENTRE

CASA’s AGM was held on the evening of 24 November 2022, following which there was a social evening with food and an art picture quiz.

The Chair, Richard Moon, began by welcoming everyone and gave an overview of what has happened to CASA since our last AGM back in 2019, with activities largely put on hold due to the Covid 19 pandemic.  Don Henderson stepped down as Chair in 2020, and both Kate Paskin and Sue Stokes have stepped down as committee members.  Peter Tomkin also stepped down as treasurer, and special thanks were made to him as the main founder of CASA 20 years ago.

The election of the committee took place.  There was an appeal for volunteers for Events Secretary to co-ordinate Thursday evening demonstrations, weekend workshops and other events, but in view of there being no volunteers it was agreed that the role would be shared amongst the rest of the committee members.  There were no other candidates, and so the existing committee was re-elected as follows:
a.    Chair and Secretary – Richard Moon
b.    Treasurer – Carole Moon
c.    Other committee members – Joan Pickett, Lynda Holloran, Di Jones

Richard Moon gave the secretary’s report, noting the period of relative inactivity during lockdown had now ended, and Monday morning meetings had resumed at the start of the year.  The exhibition was very well supported and well received, with 120 art works and two ceramics displays, from a total of 22 artists.  Kate Paskin’s portrait “Richard” was voted the best exhibit, and four paintings and four ceramics were sold, as well as a number of cards.

We recently had an outdoor painting day at Ashton, and we intend to restart Thursday evening demonstration evenings and weekend workshops next year.

We are now collecting membership fees again and have talked about ideas to attract new members.

Carole Moon gave the treasurer’s report, having recently taken over from Peter Tomkin.  Our relative inactivity over the last couple of years means that membership fees hadn’t been collected as it was not appropriate to do so.  The society’s financial position was little changed over that time, and we retain funds of around £3,000 at present.

There was a resolution to change the fees charged for demonstration evenings to £3 for members and £5 for non-members.  With an amendment to the effect that this would be the standard fee, which can be adjusted as required, this was passed.

There was then an open discussion about possible professional demonstrators to form a programme of Thursday evening demos and weekend workshops for 2023.  Suggestions included:
•    Lynn Norris, watercolours
•    Paul Talbot Greaves, although he is thought to be expensive
•    Mo Teeuw, Spalding
•    Sandra Peck
•    Peter Barker, Hope Yard, Spilsby
•    Amanda Jackson

It was further suggested that costs could be reduced by having shared evenings with the Folksworth art society, and Cherry Hadley is a member there.
